Acquisition
The purchase, by a company, of another company, a business, product lines or brands.
Organic growth
Growth (including negative growth) that comes from a company’s existing businesses as opposed to acquisitions.
Continuing operations
A number (generally turnover and profits) which excludes the effects of disposals but not those of acquisitions.
Like-for-like
An abbreviation of like-for-like. LFL numbers strip out the effect of shop openings and closures on retailers' sales or profits.
Pro-forma
Accounts drawn up as though acquisitions and disposals that took place during a period, had taken place at the start of it.
Sequential growth
Growth over the previous period, rather than over the same period in the previous year.
Cyclical
Cyclical businesses are those that are sensitive to the economic cycle.
