Bear trap

A bear trap is a short term fall in the price of a security, which then returns to a long term upward trend.

Bears who interpreted the fall as the start of a longer term decline, and used strategies such as short-selling, then make a loss.

When the price rises bears are forced to buy at higher prices and make a loss. This may well lead to a bear squeeze.
