Interest rate risk

Modified duration
Modified duration is a measure of the sensitivity of a bond price to interest rates.
PIBS (permanent interest bearing shares)
Securities issued by building societies that pay fixed interest. Often not redeemable.
Term structure
The pattern of variation of interest rates with time.
Treasury bill
A short term zero coupon government bond.
Zero coupon bond
A bond which does not pay interest but it is instead issued at a discount to its face value.
