Mutual funds

A common type of open ended collective investment vehicle. These are called mutual funds in the US and unit trusts or OEICs in Britain.

In the US, and some other countries the legal structure of a mutual fund may be either a trust (like a unit trust in the UK) or an investment company like an OEIC. The practical differences from an investor's point of view are minimal compared to alternatives such as investment trusts/companies and ETFs.
