Pre-exceptional

It is common for companies to disclose profit numbers adjusted for exceptional items in addition to the required GAAP or IFRS numbers.

The pre-exceptional numbers can give investors a better view of underlying trends, but they are also prone to manipulation as companies have considerable leeway in choosing what to classify as exceptional. Nonetheless, when pre-exceptional numbers are available, they are generally very useful to investors.
