Return on operating capital employed

Return on operating capital employed is closely related to ROCE, but strips out the effect of cash holdings and provisions to measure the returns generated by the actual operations of a company.

It is:

EBIT ÷ (capital employed - investments)

Where capital employed is defined as for ROCE.
