Buy-side analyst An analyst who works for an institutional investor such as a fund management company, usually producing research for internal use rather than publication.
Quantitative analyst A specialist in the mathematical techniques of finance. Often called "quant" or "rocket scientists".
Institutional broking Stock (and other) broking services supplied, usually together with research, to fund managers and other financial institutions.
Investor relations The things a company does to keep investors informed.
Smart money Money managed by investors who are likely to outperform the market.
Soft commission Commission given in a non-cash form.
Boutique A small specialist financial institution such as a fund manager or broker.
Bulge bracket banks The largest, mostly American, investment banks.
