Global depositary receipt

A Global Depositary Receipt (GDR) is a security issued in one country that bundles together a number of shares in a company in another country.

GDRs are mostly frequently used by companies that already have a main listing in one country, and want a secondary listing in another.

The most common depositary receipts are those issued by non-US companies with a US secondary listing. These are called ADRs.
